Cremation:
Since 1983, the Catholic Church has permitted cremation as an option for Catholics.
The Catholic Cemetery Association of Peoria (CCA) provides Niches inside the Mausoleum for cremated remains. A Niche is a small cubicle and is designed for a single Urn. The latest addition to the Mausoleum are lit niches for a single Urn or for a double. The glass front allows for personalization in celebrating the life of your loved one.
Another option is a Double Niche, no lighting. These are located in the most recent addition to the Mausoleum.
Outside inurnment of cremated remains is available in the Courtyard at Resurrection Mausoleum. The Bread of Life Columbarium (pictured below) provides the family with a beautiful, respectful final resting place for the cremated remains of a loved one.
Cremation Columbarium Niches are also available at St. Mary's Cemetery, another garden setting. The cost for the placement of a single urn in a Niche includes engraving. Niches are located on either side of the Three Crosses Columbarium as well as granite benches.
Cremation Benches and Double or Triple Niche Columbariums. These new options provide our families with a different way to remember their loved ones. The Cremation Benches are placed in special areas and can hold up to 3 set of ashes. The price for benches includes lettering. The Double and Triple Niche Columbian holds up to 2-3 urns and includes engraving for the surname and the niche doors. The garden has space for benches.
We also allow placement of urns in the ground. Placements may be on an unoccupied grave, on an occupied grave, or in an occupied crypt in the Mausoleum. In 2009 CCA started requiring all buried urns to be placed in Urn Vaults prior to inurnment in our cemeteries.
Other In-Ground options for cremated remains are also available. Special garden areas have been developed which provide for placement of a single urn per site. This price includes inurnment fees and a headstone. These are available at Resurrection and St. Mary cemeteries.
