A. The cost varies greatly from a single in-the-ground burial site to a four grave family plot. Other costs related to burial costs are interment fees (opening and closing of the grave), headstones, memorials, and merchandise. Prices are also subject to change. Please contact the office for more information. Appointments are recommended for at-need and pre-planning purposes. The Catholic Cemetery Association of Peoria (CCA) accepts checks, cash or credit cards. Financing is also available, for pre-planning only.
A. A ground burial requires a casket and vault. In a typical ground burial, the mortuary usually handles arrangements for the vault. However, Lawn Crypts are also available through CCA. In 2009 CCA required that all cremation burials be placed in an Urn Vault, which are available for purchase at the office.
A. If a burial is what we consider an "At-Need," that is a death has occurred and no burial site has been prearranged, we request payment in full for the site and grave opening 48 hours before the day of burial. Pre-planned purchases have a variety of payment plans available.
A. Normally, the first contact is with the mortuary/funeral home. They in turn will contact the cemetery. The CCA requires a 48-hour notification. Under normal circumstances, the mortuary/funeral home handling the deceased makes the arrangements with the cemetery for the pending services, date and time.
A. The CCA prepares the ground for burial, and if needed, erects a tent for shelter during the committal service. After the family leaves, the groundskeepers fill in the grave, restores the ground and places any flowers left from the service on the grave site. If it is an entombment, the crypt is lettered prior to the service.
A. Depending upon the weather, grass is sown as soon as appropriate for it to germinate. The ground will settle, especially after the first rain and takes several months to fully settle. Burials during the winter season are not sown with seed until spring.
A. Live flowers can remain as long as they remain healthy. Decorations other than flowers may remain as long as they retain their attractiveness and are not an obstacle to maintenance. All decorations are removed during November and March, the first 15 days of these months.
A. Direct all questions through the office at 309-691-5889.
A. Headstones or Monuments are available through CCA and private Vault & Monument Companies.
A. There are restrictions on the size and type of headstone allowed for a grave site. These vary depending upon the cemetery and location of the burial. Please contact the office for the specifics related to each cemetery.
