Resurrection Mausoleum & Cemetery 7519 North Allen Road Peoria, Illinois 61614 309-691-5889
In 1951, The Catholic Cemetery Association of Peoria purchased two farms totaling 130 acres on the far north end of the city with plans to start the third Catholic Cemetery in Peoria. A portion of the acreage was developed into Resurrection Cemetery, which began serving the community in 1963 with the first burial in November of that year.
To meet the needs and requests of familes, Resurrection Cemetery comprises various areas.
Traditional ground burials make up the largest portion of land with prominent statuary dominating the landscape -- the Holy Family and the Pieta.
Prayer Shrines outline the traditional burial area. The Shrines are devoted to the well-known verses of The Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Glory Be. These are designed for Lawncrypts.
Flanking the western side of the traditional area are the Stations of the Cross - XI, XII and XIII. These are lawncrypts with bronze markers and there is also an in-ground cremains section.
Flanking the eastern side of the traditional area is the Blessed Saints section with ten blue spruce trees framing the backdrop. On three sides at each tree are spaces alotted for four grave sites and one five foot monument with four matching flush markers.
The Scripture Shrines are located along the western edge of the Blessed Saints section. Each shrine has a different passage from the Bible.
Surrounding the St. Joseph of Arimathea Chapel is the mausoleum with a current capacity of more than 5,000 entombments. Bishop Edward O'Rourke, D.D. dedicated the mausoleum in 1971. In the spirit of the Catholic Cemetery Association's commitment to the Peoria community, three additions are planned for the Resurrection Mausoleum.
Courtyards grace the north end of the mausoleum and are serene locations for niche columbaria or niche benches. Benches and two to three niche columbaria are available. For more information, contact [email protected] or drop in at the office.
